Previously, I sewed several types of discharge envelopes for newborns, and today I want to show you how you can sew a transformable blanket with your own hands. This envelope is perfect for babies from birth and in the first months of life. If you unzip it, you can use it like a regular blanket, which will significantly increase its service life.
To sew such an envelope we will need: fabric for the top and inner layers, alpolux insulation (sintepon or sheet holofiber are also suitable), 40-50 cm elastic bands, zipper 20-25 cm, detachable zipper 50-55 cm, measuring tape, thread and scissors . If you sew such an envelope for the summer, then insulation is not needed.
I used cotton for the top layer, and soft and delicate plush for the inner layer. Your baby will be very soft and cozy in this envelope. Fabric provided by the store "Fabric Studio "Fox"— delivery throughout Russia (follow the link to the fabric store).
The pattern is simple. We cut out rectangles measuring 92x87 cm from fabric and insulation.
First you need to quilt cotton fabric with insulation. To do this, we place the cotton with the wrong side on the insulation, pin it together and make several lines on a machine along the entire perimeter of the blanket and along the edges.
For the pocket on the legs, cut off 2 parts, as shown in the photo below.
From the wrong side we sew both parts at the top.
Turn it right side out, iron it, and stitch along the top where it is marked with dotted lines. Insert an elastic band into the resulting hole.
We fix the elastic on both sides and sew along the sides, bending the edges inward.
We sew the resulting product to the cotton side of the future blanket from the bottom in the middle.
This is what this leg pocket looks like on the future blanket.
Now we place the plush piece on the blanket so that the front sides of the fabric face each other and stitch from the bottom, as shown in the photo.
At this stage, you need to sew a zipper 50-55 cm long on the sides below. I sewed it to the cotton side first (on both sides).
Cover with a layer of plush and stitch along the sides and top, leaving a small hole for a small zipper.
Through this hole we turn the blanket right side out.
All that remains is to sew in a zipper 20-25 cm long.
I also sewed it to the cotton side first, then sewed the plush, folding it inwards. This process is better visible in the video (will be at the beginning of the article and on my YouTube channel).
