Who, why and how is looking for the missing Maxim Markhalyuk in Belovezhskaya Pushcha

On September 2, Gennady Sorokin, a military soldier of military unit 48 484 of the city of Birch, died on combat duty.

On the fact of the death of a young man, a check is carried out. This was reported by his brother.

He graduated from the Belarusian National Technical University, and he needed to serve only a year. He studied in the full-time budget at the Faculty of Engineering. After studying, he left to work on distribution. He managed to work only three months, and he was taken into the army, - said the brother of the deceased soldier. Alexey Sorokin.

First, the young man was sent to Baranavichy for a month on the course of a young fighter. After the oath, to Brest, and then redirected to Birch in the military unit 48 684.

We went to him every month. He was waiting for us every time. We just always were with him, grew up together and were very attached to each other. He spoke little about the service. He himself rarely complained about anything. He did not tell me anything. He said that serving “is difficult,” said Alexei.

As the brother of the deceased noted, Gennady did not complain about hazing, nor about “requisitions”. Once a month, relatives brought 150-200 rubles a month. However, he practically did not spend them. After his death, the relatives received the entire accumulated amount.

I think that nobody took the money from him there. He communicated normally with the guys, ”the source added.
On September 3, relatives of Gennady were going to come to his unit. The guy had only 2.5 months to serve.

The day before our arrival, my father called and said that Gena was dead. They carry combat duty on the tower. There they are on duty for two hours: first one, then another. At about 13:00, Gena took up duty and was supposed to be there until 15:00. At this time, the soldiers went to the bathhouse, and he was left alone on the tower. During this period, a tragedy occurred. At 14.50, his changer climbed onto the tower and saw him lying on the floor, ”noted Alexei.

At 14.55, the guy was called an ambulance, and at 15.08, doctors stated death. On the same day, relatives arrived in Birch. However, at the weekend the morgue was closed, so for two days, until Monday, they could not see the body of Gennady. According to Alexei, they did not see visible signs of violent death on the guy’s body.

The preliminary cause of death, we were told, is a blood clot. But they explained to us that in such cases they write so often, and then forensic experts establish the exact cause of death. At the autopsy, they told us that the thrombus was excluded because the vessels are all right, the organs too. Visually, everything is fine with them, but they warned that the results of the forensic examination should be expected, ”the brother of the deceased explained.

Aleksey also emphasized that during the call there were no questions about his brother’s health.
  - Although in his card, when he was at school, it was indicated that he had tachycardia. At home, when he was ill, he asked my mother for a valerian, ”said Alexey.

After the incident, the relatives of Gennady wrote an appeal to the Prosecutor General. Their letter was redirected to the prosecutor's office of the Brest region. Now the fact of the guy’s death is being checked.

Information about the tragedy in Birch was confirmed in the Ministry of Defense. The spokesman for the department, Colonel Vladimir Makarov, said that no signs of violent death were found on the guy’s body. At the moment, an inspection is being carried out by employees of the Berezovsky district department of the Investigative Committee, examinations have been appointed.

Hundreds of volunteers from different cities come to the agro-town Novy Dvor of the Svisloch district of the Grodno region to help find the missing boy.

September 16, Maxim Markhalyuk and his whereabouts are still unknown. Over the course of a week, relatives and local residents, police officers, the Ministry of Emergencies, military, border guards, volunteers, hundreds of caring people, are looking for a child.

A situational headquarters has been created in the Novodvorsky village council from representatives of the internal affairs bodies and the Ministry of Emergencies, and tents of the Red Cross are deployed nearby on the street. Volunteers are registered here, briefings are given and groups are sent on assignments, and those who returned from the forest are fed and warmed with tea. At 11:00 in the morning there are 398 volunteers on the list, and new ones arrive every hour.

Brestchanka Elena Morozova  was on a search Wednesday. On Friday I arrived at the New Yard again:

- I have two children, one of them is the age of Maxim. I can’t sit quietly at home, knowing that the boy can be alone in the forest.

Denis Borodko - from MinskHe stays here until Sunday:

- People are needed. I regret that I did not come earlier, I thought that the news was about to appear that the child had been found. When I saw in social networks that volunteers were needed on Friday and Saturday, I packed up and went. I will do everything in my power.

Volunteers are divided into groups, some are sent to comb the forests and marshes, others - in search of nearby villages. Everything needs to be checked: yards, abandoned houses, barns, well cellars. All day helicopters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations fly over Belovezhskaya Pushcha, rescuers will work at night. Volunteers are forbidden to go into the woods after dark - local residents take them for the night.

Searches will continue until the boy is found, reported "SB" head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Major General of the Police Vadim Sinyavsky:

- We coordinated the activities of all interested bodies and units, including volunteers, to organize the search for Maxim. From the first days, quite serious forces were involved - three aircraft, unmanned aircraft. We hope that the boy is alive and will be found in the near future.

Currently, more than a thousand people are participating in the search for Maxim Markhalyuk. For those who want to join, experts recommend getting ready - take removable sets of clothes, raincoats, high rubber shoes, warm socks, binoculars, flashlights, communications and food.

The ninth day of the search for a 10-year-old child in Belovezhskaya Pushcha has not yet brought any good or bad news.

“Now we don’t even know what to catch on”

Cyril works as a driver and specialist in low-voltage networks, serves advertising on buses. In the search and rescue squad "Angel", the Minsker has been five years old, so he took leave from work and arrived four days ago in the village of Novy Dvor.

At this moment, about 60 people arrived. They work out the squares that I set in front of them- says Cyril. - The task of my groups for today is: firstly, to find Maxim, and secondly, to comb the area so that nobody will even lose buttons there.

Our groups work out the squares so carefully in order to find confirmation of the presence of the person we are looking for. If a person has lost a button there, a pack of cigarettes, a wrapper from candy, the task of my search groups is to inform me about this, says Kirill.

Cyril literally minted the answers: for 8 days of searches in different media, incorrect information repeatedly came up. There were more than 2,000 people at the weekend in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, and Cyril personally drove the groups according to the given squares.

At the moment, there is no exactly confirmed information that the boy was here. Many traces are being worked out, indeed many things have been found. We worked out some of the finds ourselves (we have search dogs), some of them were transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs- says Cyril.

These are all 8 day search results. Yesterday, the headquarters of the Angel squad starred. Cyril is still behind the "main". He explains that he had never encountered such cases before.

For too long, the child has been in the forest. Previously, when such information came to Angel, we had urgent fees, and for two days we found the missing person. Now we don’t even know what to catch on.

What area has already been worked out?

Volunteers "Angela" and law enforcement officers all the time say "work out the square." This means that the terrain is divided into sectors, which must be searched by the search group. The media administrator of the Angel squad Julia Kovgan  at the time of the conversation with reporters, there was no exact figure about the surveyed territory.

- Not all volunteers sent tracks from the navigators, so that we could tell what area was closed. But we started from zero, that is, from the boy’s house and the place where he played. Probably within a radius of 35 km - that's for sure- says Julia.

Moreover, the search groups repeatedly checked some squares, since at the beginning there were few coordinators in the headquarters, and volunteers were inexperienced.

Who else is looking for a boy?

Parents and the elder brother of Maxim Markhalyuk also comb the forest from the first day. The head of the department of information and public relations of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Yevgeny Dudko said that the family is “characterized positively”: “The version, they say, had a fight, the child left home - was not even practiced”.

The Grodno regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that by 9 am on September 25, 61 rescuers from Grodno and their 15 colleagues from Brest, as well as a helicopter and three psychologists of the Ministry of Emergencies were involved in the search.

A spokeswoman for the Grodno Emergencies Ministry noted that many rescuers work "in their spare time from work: they have changed - they go to the rescue."

At the weekend, law enforcement officers again went around all the houses in the village, checked the attics and wells. Housing and communal services employees checked the sewer manholes to exclude the possibility of a child getting there, the Grodno police website writes.

Why is there such a resonance in the case of Maxim?

Many people are always going to search for children. For example, in the region of the Minsk region, 50–70 people from Minsk, plus residents of the environs, are always looking for the missing- said Julia Kovgan.
