How to open a leather workshop. Business on handmade leather products. Handmade rules. How is the processing of an individual order

Things that are made by one's own hands stand apart among consumer goods, which are splashed on the market in tons. That is why, products created by painstaking work in piece copies are popular and are quite expensive.

We talked to Nikita Trofimov, who runs the TN HandMade leather goods workshop. The conversation turned out to be quite interesting and informative.

Maxim: Nikita, tell us briefly about when and how did you get the idea to create and then sell leather products?

Nikita: Initially, it was not a planned business project. The idea came to mind suddenly in 2009, because. love these accessories wide leather bracelets). It was problematic to buy them, as a rule, such things were brought from abroad. I decided to try to do it myself and for friends. Then strangers started calling and inquiring about the products. And I realized that this direction is quite popular and exclusive, because. there is no mass supply on the market.

Maxim: That's right, with wide bracelets strained, although they are quite popular. Where does the material come from? Is there any production on hand that can provide leather?

Nikita: Within 3 years skin. material acquired at domestic tanneries. There are no such production facilities in the Vladimir region, so I can’t say that they are “at hand”. Traveled to neighboring areas for material.

Now I am purchasing leather material from Italy on order. This is due to the higher quality of leather dressing compared to domestic leather.

Maksim: It turns out that the products are almost “Italian” :) Is the skin somehow additionally processed or is it a “ready-to-use product”?

Nikita: Leather comes to me in large rolls. Part is additionally processed, for example, hand-painted in the desired color, part is used without processing.

Maxim: Is this processing done by one person? How many people are employed in the workshop? Or are you alone and there is a "workshop"?

Nikita: At first I worked alone and the workshop was in the apartment) now I have 4 people working for me. Everyone is busy with their own business)

Maxim: Did it all start with leather bracelets or watches with wide straps? Tell us a little about the assortment that your workshop offers. Watches, bracelets.. what else?

Nikita: At first, he only made wide bracelets for his hand. Then he made the first watch on a wide belt. It was the Luch watch, which I bought in a company store when I was in Minsk. Watches on a wide strap are very popular, combining both a leather bracelet and the functionality of a watch. I also make leather belts, recently I began to cast brass buckles according to my own design.

In the workshop I also make bags, purses, business card holders, key holders, camera straps, etc. In general, there are a lot of opportunities for development and ideas in this area. Not even enough time for everything

Maxim: So, it turns out that you can make any designer item out of leather? Were there any special orders that stood out from the general series?

Nikita: In fact yes. But I do not take on all the ideas that clients offer. Because I strive for my own style. I prefer to do what I myself like and meet my style and view of work. I mostly work on my own creative ideas. Let's say now I'm working on a special order for a professional musician who plays the harmonica. I sew a cover for 20 harmonicas for his performance at international competition in Germany.

Where to get money to start own business? This is the problem faced by 95% of new entrepreneurs! In the article, we have revealed the most relevant ways of obtaining start-up capital for an entrepreneur. We also recommend that you carefully study the results of our experiment in exchange earnings:

Maxim: So, did you learn this craft somewhere, or did you already start to understand the nuances along the way? Or were there mentors?

Nikita: I learned everything on my own) gradually mastered the technology, learned to sew on a sewing machine. Skills came gradually, and with them the quality and beauty of products grew.

Maksim: Judging by the photos, the quality is really high :) And the prices are quite reasonable. And as for watches, where exactly do watches come from? Is it some kind of “noname” or purchases from some watch company?

Nikita: Some of the watches are original. I buy the beam at the Minsk Watch Factory, this trademark is of good quality and retro style, which is now popular) Dials-copies are purchased "noname".

Maxim: And how is the issue with the guarantee resolved? Were there cases when the watch was returned due to a breakdown?

Nikita: There is a warranty on the watch mechanism. Similar problematic issues I always try to solve the most beneficial way for the client. Because I'm not chasing a quick profit, but I work for a good name, so to speak) Cases, of course, happen :(

Maxim: Yes, earning a reputation is quite difficult, but it breaks down in an instant. Do you only distribute your products through the social network or are there other channels? Tell our readers where to read about your products and how to order them. Suddenly, someone decides to give himself a gift.

Nikita: On the this moment I trade remotely through social media VKontakte network, I have an officially registered IP. In the near future I will open my own online store, the site is currently under development.

On the VK pages I have catalogs with available products, it is described in detail how to place an order, about delivery to other cities and guarantees.

Any product can be laser engraved with a commemorative inscription or pattern.

Leather wallets are a very popular and sought-after accessory in the domestic space. Thanks to the natural material, the products are distinguished by style and quality. Compared to factory-made wallets, custom-made wallets have a unique design. Therefore, the organization of the production of leather wallets will be financially beneficial, regardless of the region.

The arrangement of this business involves working in several separate directions at once, in particular, along the way, you can make watch straps, wrist accessories, wallets, chokers and many other popular products. To get maximum performance, you will need to purchase special equipment and assemble a team of working personnel.

Renting is a benefit for start-up businessmen.

Premises for rent at the initial stage of doing business is the most preferable, as it allows the owner to save a lot of financial resources. You can choose suitable rental options using ads or specialized web resources, taking into account a specific region.

For a confident start, you should focus on small rooms with a total area of at least 250 square meters. The average cost of such a lease in Moscow can be about 12 - 13 thousand rubles a year.

A big advantage will be the presence of connected communications, in particular centralized water supply and electricity. The following amount of financial costs for rent can be distinguished: 13,000 (market prices) x 250 (area) = 3.25 million rubles per year. The cost is calculated without taking into account taxes and other various losses.

Procurement of technological tools.

Leather processing will require special equipment that will save high quality raw materials and get an absolutely finished product. Purchases are recommended to be made from certified dealers. However, in the absence of funds for the purchase of new units, you should use the secondary market. To do this, it is better to involve the appropriate professionals who will help you choose the right type of equipment at affordable prices.

General list of working units for production:

1. Sewing machine (for leather) - 89,000 rubles.
2. Machine for stitching in corporate identity— 56,000 rubles.
3. Equipment for branding - 61,000 rubles.
4. Quality control system - 115,000 rubles.
5. Tools for fine processing - 40,000 rubles.

Total costs for the purchase of special tools and equipment: 89,000 + 56,000 + 61,000 + 115,000 + 40,000 = 361,000 rubles. For the transportation and installation of working systems, costs in the amount of at least 60,000 rubles will be required. additionally.

Qualified business personnel.

To forge efficient production leather wallets and other accessories are enough for only 3 people. The working staff may consist of the following specialties: master seamstress, leather processing specialist and handyman. The level of salary of each specialty is selected taking into account the average for the market.

It should be noted that an example wages employees:

1. Master seamstress - 50,000 rubles.
2. Skin specialist - 45,000 rubles.
3. Handyman - 25,000 rubles.

In the future, you will need to hire an advertising and sales manager with average salary- 47,000 rubles. Total staff costs: 50,000 + 45,000 + 25,000 = 120,000 rubles / month, while possible expenses for the year - 1.4 million rubles.

Manufacturing technology and purchase of raw materials.

The technology for manufacturing leather products, in particular purses and wallets, is quite simple. For production, high-quality raw materials are selected, which are further processed on special equipment. The specialist performs most of the work manually, which has a positive effect on the overall quality of the product. For manufacturing, it is necessary to purchase leather of the 1st grade, which meets all regulatory requirements. Processed raw materials cost within 2,500 rubles per meter. Prices may vary depending on the thickness of the material and the region of purchase.

For advertising finished products it is best to use proven methods, in particular, the most suitable ones are: creating your own website with a virtual store, press (newspapers, ads), radio (city), posting advertisements in transport, making booklets and ordinary leaflets. Due to their low cost and popularity, these methods will allow you to get maximum efficiency at small investment. On average, an entrepreneur will need at least 300,000 rubles to organize high-quality advertising. The final cost depends on the region.

Sales of ready-made leather wallets and payback.

Ready-made branded leather wallets and other exclusive accessories can be sold through your store, buyers and for individual orders. For more effective sales, it is recommended to take part in an exhibition or any other event in the city where you can showcase your own products. The average cost of one product is at least 1,500 rubles. Accordingly, when selling about 500 pieces per month, you can earn an income of 750,000 rubles. For one working year - at least 9 million rubles, which is quite profitable. Payback of business - 5 - 8 months.

During the dressing process, the skin of the animal is divided into three layers, which are then either transformed or removed. The top layer is the outer layer, which is composed of squamous epithelium. The middle layer is the main one, which is formed by protein collagen fibers. The bottom layer is a loose, saturated fat layer. This layer is removed in varying amounts during dressing. It should be noted that in the process of dressing, different types of leather are obtained. They can be broken down into three parts: raw, rawhide and tanned leather. Fresh skin is flexible because its collagen fibers do not stick together. Dry skin becomes stiff and brittle due to the fact that the fibers stick together into a homogeneous mass and lose their mobility. When dressing the skin, a substance is introduced into it that separates the fibers from each other. During the tanning process, this substance is a tanning agent, which can create chemical bonds between the fibers, but at the same time does not allow them to sag and stick together. Other methods of skin treatment use fats, which also prevent the fibers from sticking together. So, there are differences in the processing methods for obtaining different types of leather, but they all have common mandatory steps.

General steps for obtaining different types of leather

Mezdrenie

The very first step is the skinning. At this stage, the skin remains without meat, fat and subcutaneous fatty tissue. After it, if necessary, dehairing or ashing is performed, while removing hair and epidermis. The result is a product that is commonly called a hide. If at this stage it stops, then raw skin has already been obtained. In the following steps, rawhide or tanned leather is obtained.

To date, there are a huge number of types of tanned leather. It turns out that leather is one of the first materials that people began to process and use in the history of mankind. So, in the late Paleolithic era, the simplest clothes were replaced by sewn clothes made of leather and fur. Even with the advent of weaving, leather did not disappear from everyday life; they continued to produce belts, bags, and shoes. Every nation has a huge number traditional ways leather dressings. However, all these methods can be combined into three or four, resulting in completely different products. For example, dry skin requires a minimum of treatment. Rawhide is obtained by dressing without tanning. Tanned leather undergoes the operation of fat tanning or tanning with vegetable or artificial chemical tannins. Raw leather has a narrow scope. Rawhide has been the main source of clothing and footwear since ancient times. Tanning became known in antiquity, however, not among all peoples. Currently, tanned leather is used everywhere.

Cutting raw and finished leather

During the production process, they are cut and differ in various configurations. It depends on the size of the skin and the range of finished skins. There are such configurations: whole skin, half-leather, kulat, semi-kulat, collar, saddle. The last configuration is the most valuable part of the leather, which has no floor and collar. It is divided into upper saddle and lower. It is used in the manufacture of belts, bags and other products that require a sufficiently high density of raw materials.

The production of leather is considered the most ancient and exclusively chemical production, as it has a final chemical effect on natural material. To date, there are three main stages of leather production: the soaking-ash process, the preparatory process and tanning, as well as the chemical finishing and the dyeing-greasing process.

Washing-ash process

At the first stage this process soaking is performed with the aim of returning the skin to a paired state. Upon completion of the soaking stage, the spent solutions contain: dirt, soluble proteins, sodium chloride and carbonate, naphthalene, fats and antiseptics. During the operation, hair and epidermis are removed, and the fibrous structure of the dermis changes, namely, defibrillation and defibrillation are performed.

Preparatory processes and tanning + video

At this stage, after the operation of deashing - softening, the dermis is neutralized, calcium compounds, interfibrillar non-collagen substance, and fats are removed. The next operation at this stage is pickling, which aims to prepare the hide for tanning. Preparation takes place as follows: the skin is treated with acid in the presence of some additives. The last operation at this stage is tanning. The purpose of which is to stabilize the dermis as a result of fixing tanning compounds in its collagen structure and blocking various surface chemical groups. During this operation, the following are used: if chromium tanning is carried out, then basic chromium sulfate, sulfate and sodium carbonate. Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins and various organic acids. When tanned with syntans, phenols and condensed polyphenols are used. The next step in the production of leather is chemical finishing and dyeing and greasing processes.

It should be noted that at the final stage of chemical finishing, the following operations are carried out: retanning, dyeing, fatliquoring.

Any accessory is primarily jewelry, emphasizing or vice versa hiding certain moments. outerwear. Based on this logic, a number of specific requirements are put forward for them, including uniqueness, following a strict style (depending on the main composition), quality factor, and so on. All this led to the formation of a kind of "bubble", that is, a sharp difference and the reality of the price. You do not believe? Today we will consider a business plan for the manufacture of leather belts and, using an example, you can see how much manufacturers earn. Speaking of

Why is it profitable to engage in the production of leather belts?

One of the most popular accessories in Russia can be called a belt. This accessory is worn by all categories of consumers, from small to large. At the same time, the market configuration is gradually changing. If even 5-6 years ago sales could be divided into two conditional categories:

  • - expensive belts made of genuine leather from European manufacturers;
  • - Cheap products made in China.

Today the situation has changed and the middle segment of natural leather belts has begun to actively develop on the market. In terms of quality, such products are not inferior to European counterparts, and at a price slightly higher than Chinese ones. The emergence of such a niche is facilitated by the growing demand from Russians for unique high-quality items. self made. Actually, the tendency to popularize handicrafts is a global trend, and here Russia has just “entered” this path. The practice of the USA and Europe shows that demand will grow by 30-40% annually, which provides an opportunity to create a mini home business.

In general, the business is based on three fundamental things:

  1. - demand - the issue of demand has already been considered, it will grow;
  2. - organization of the process - to organize a workplace, a small room of 10-15 squares is enough and the purchase of several units, and then at will;
  3. start-up capital- money is needed only for the purchase of raw materials.

The level of profitability in the production of leather belts varies from 300% to 1000% on one product, we will talk about the financial part of the business plan below.

What does the technological process look like?

According to the manufacturing technology of leather belts is divided into two types:

The first option is the manufacture of a multilayer belt.

A multilayer product is a classic option and consists of three components.

  • - front part. For its manufacture, a wide variety of leather is used, in fact, multilayer belts are made of ostrich, snake, goat and other extravagant leathers. The choice of starting material for the front part is a purely individual matter and depends on what and for how much the belt will be produced.
  • - lining. As a gasket, they can use both some types of low-grade raw leather or MPCC (pulp and leather cushioning material), the so-called leatherboard. It is worth noting that in the manufacture of a leather multilayer belt, you can do without a lining, but the wear resistance and quality of the final product is reduced.
  • - bottom layer. For this layer of the belt, pigskin is most often used. Pigskin has a number of advantages for use as an underlayer. Firstly, pigskin is more wear-resistant, and secondly, it is cheaper.

The technology for manufacturing a multilayer belt is as follows:

  1. The first stage of production - cut blanks of the required dimensions;
  2. The second stage - three layers are glued, while the bottom layer is folded inward. When gluing, presses are used.
  3. The third stage - stitch the product around the perimeter.
  4. The fourth stage is embossing or engraving, punching the necessary holes.
  5. The fifth stage is staining and grinding.
  6. The sixth stage is the final assembly. Installation of buckles, additional rings and so on.

It is worth noting that the combined production process is described, with this method the leather belt is glued and stitched. According to the technology itself, it is possible to use only one of the processes or gluing or stitching, but both options are not suitable for a small home business, as they do not guarantee quality.

The production technology of a single-layer belt is simpler:

  1. - cut out the product;
  2. - punching the necessary holes
  3. – We produce engraving or embossing;
  4. - sanding the edges
  5. - paint;
  6. - install buckles, rivets.

Compared to multi-layer belts, single-layer belts are not considered a classic option. But they began to enjoy great popularity as an accessory to jeans. Although today they are worn not only by denim lovers, but also as an addition to traditional costumes.

What production equipment is needed?

The answer to the question depends a lot on what exactly you want to do. If we are talking about a full-fledged mini-shop with volumes of several hundred finished products per day, then the list is quite wide:

  • automatic or manual press;
  • machine for installing rhinestones, jewelry;
  • machine for uniform and smooth rounding of edges;
  • cutting machine.
  • leather sewing machine
  • device for engraving and embossing on the skin;
  • painting equipment

A complete set of such equipment will cost at least 500 thousand rubles, if you buy used or partially manual machines, you can get by with 250 thousand rubles.

True, in such cases we are still talking about a full-fledged workshop, with the need for specialized premises, hiring staff and other “pleasant little things”. At the same time, the organization of full-fledged production is not necessary, because in such cases the main competitive advantage of small businesses, mobility and the availability of a unique product are gone.

The attractiveness of a home mini-business looks completely different, in which one, maximum two people are employed, and production is not put on stream. Producing a truly unique handcrafted product provides an opportunity to fill a completely different niche and avoid over-competing with inferior Chinese goods.

In this version, the business plan for making leather belts looks a little different. You will need to purchase:

  1. - a sewing machine for working with leather. Cost in the region of 20,000 rubles;
  2. - gluing press. It can be made independently;
  3. - a set of tools for embossing on the skin. The cost of such a set is from 5 thousand rubles. up to 10 thousand rubles;
  4. - a set of knives, for trimming, trimming. The cost is up to 7,000 rubles.
  5. - grinding machine. The price is from 5000 to 8000 rubles.

In total, in the version for a small home business, a set of equipment will cost 45 thousand rubles. True, this amount can also be reduced by buying a used sewing machine, using your own grinder. What you really should not save on is the purchase of tools for embossing and trimming leather.

How much space is needed for a business.

To organize the entire production cycle of natural leather belts, 10-15 squares are enough. As a consequence, one room in the house is quite suitable, the only thing worth remembering is the painting process, it must be done outside the living quarters. An ordinary garage is quite suitable for painting.

Of course, someone will say this is “handicraft”, yes, that’s it, but remember that it is “handicraft” that is popular today. That is, a product produced by hand using the simplest technologies.

So for all general characteristics business can be attributed exclusively to home ideas or the idea of \u200b\u200bbusiness in the garage, and a small one.

How much can you earn from this home business?

Let's start with the cost of the belt.

Calculation of the cost of a belt made of "fashionable" ostrich leather. It is worth noting that other types of elite skins such as deerskin, crocodile skin, snake skin, and so on are similar in value.

Average material consumption Material Price, rub. per square decimeter/pc Cost price
Front side 4 sq.dts. Ostrich skin 170 680
Lining 4 sq.dts. 1 4
back side 4 sq.dts. split 5 20
Buckle 1 PC. Metal 200 200
Mounts 3 pcs Metal 10 30
*** *** *** 10
Total *** *** *** 944

The average selling price of an ostrich belt is about 5,000 rubles. Total:

Price - 5000 rubles;

Cost price - 944 rubles;

Gross profit - 4056 rubles.

With an organization cost of 45 thousand, the full return on investment is achieved after the sale of 11 belts.

Calculation of the cost of a belt from the skin of cattle - a multilayer belt.

Average material consumption Material Price rub per square decimeter / piece Cost price
Front side 4 sq.dts Vorotok 20 80
Lining 4 sq.dts Pulp-leather lining 1 4
back side 4 sq.dts split 5 20
Buckle 1 PC Metal 70 70
Mounts 3 pcs Metal 10 30
Other (paint, electricity, etc.) *** *** *** 10
Total *** *** *** 214

Average selling price 1500 rubles

Total gross profit will be - 1286 rubles per unit.

Now for the usual single-layer belt, which is much easier to do at home.

Option one using "good" raw materials, cattle skins.

Selling price 600 rubles

Gross profit - 400 rubles from each unit of products sold. At home, it takes about two hours to make such a belt. As a result, you can earn 2-3 thousand with not very strong labor intensity.

Option two - cheap leather belts. We use pigskin

The selling price of the cheapest options is around 170 rubles apiece.

Gross profit of 85 rubles or .

As you can see at home, you can compete, even with Chinese consumer goods. At the same time, most of the prices are taken without the possibility of obtaining wholesale discounts for regular orders.

Conclusion - a business plan for the production of genuine leather belts showed that profitability small production at home allows you to get profitability from 100% on the cheapest products to 500% or more on expensive exclusive models.

The main problem of the home business in this context is the implementation, and we are talking about both standard products and exclusive belts. The manufacture of designer expensive belts is a matter of time in the development of a home business, with the growth of experience, any mini workshop will become a designer one and acquire own brand. The following options should be considered as the main distribution channels:

  • - leather shops haberdashery. It is quite simple to agree, you give your goods on a trade credit.
  • - implementation through specialized resources of handicrafts, they wrote about it here.
  • - creating your own blog with a sales section.

This concludes the business plan for the production of natural leather belts at home. If you have any questions, write, we will try to find answers to all questions.

They say that in Russia there is no production of its own, they say, we don’t know how to do anything. Reconomica responsibly declares: "Lie!"

Today our guest is a master tanner who created his own workshop and a new Russian brand of premium leather goods. Working with leather as a business is unusual and interesting;

You will find out how handmade leather accessories are made, how much they cost, whether such exclusive products have a large markup, and who buys Russian designer leather goods in general.

My name is Eugene and I represent a leather goods workshop Salty Dog. We are located in Samara. The workshop has existed since 2012, but I began to actively engage in this business in 2015. Today our audience is in social networks has a total of about 60,000 people - this is Youtube , VC , Instagram. We have 2 people working, in the near future we plan to expand the staff.

This is what mine looks like workplace in a workshop.

How it all started

It all started in 2012 as a hobby by trial and error. Over time, orders began to arrive for the manufacture of small leather goods. For friends and acquaintances, I did everything at purchase prices, but then there was an understanding that the product itself - leather accessories to order - was in demand and you could earn money on it.

As such, it is difficult to call it a business, so far it is more like home production, although before that there was experience in retail and direction of catering. This direction became the main one after comparing the marginality of products.

How handmade leather products are made

We are located in one of office centers Samara. The filling of the workshop is quite ascetic - there is no abundance of machine tools and other devices, since the production from cutting to stitching is carried out entirely by hand.

My tools.

As for the manufacturing process itself:

  1. Each product is lined by hand, occasionally we use patterns;
  2. After marking, the blanks are cut;
  3. Next, the line of the future seam is marked and the internal parts of the product are processed, which cannot be reached after assembly;
  4. Then, manually, using a hammer and a line punch (a special tool resembling a fork), we punch holes;
  5. After we sew everything manually with a saddle stitch using two needles.
  6. After complete assembly, finishing processing is carried out, which consists in ennobling the ends of the product and protecting the product with special means.

Leatherworker's tools

The first wallet I sold was completely assembled from improvised materials (almost every house has a hammer, a clerical knife and a ruler), and the first line punch was made from an ordinary dessert fork - with straight hands you can do with an ordinary awl. Therefore, at the start, the main costs can be considered the purchase of raw materials.

This is how stitching is done.

Over time, I began to purchase tools that help speed up and optimize processes. Although I can confidently say that all necessary tools can be made by hand. In this case, it is very important to find your tool, for example, I still take punches in the same place where I bought my first punch. It also happens that the tool is absolutely not suitable or inconvenient for my needs, although it can be extremely popular and in demand among other masters.

Where do we get raw materials

At the moment we buy leather from different suppliers, mainly in Samara from our supplier Artkozhtorg, we buy something in Moscow and in other regions.

Leather is measured in decimeters, the cost is also estimated in rubles per decimeter. Prices from 10 rubles per decimeter of lining material to 60 rubles for leather from a Brazilian manufacturer. There are separate exhibits worth 500 rubles per decimeter, but these are more exotic or rare leathers.

The raw material looks like this.

The size of the skins, their grade, type of tanning, manufacturers - such a big topic that it will be enough for one more article.

The cost of one product made of leather, made by hand

Sometimes the cost of materials can be 200-300 rubles, but the time to make one piece of leather takes 7-8 hours. Therefore, the question of the cost of each product is very individual. Moreover, we announce to the client the final cost of the product, already taking into account the delivery.

The production of a mini wallet can take about 2 hours, the production of a large wallet - about 4-6 hours, a regular leather bag can be assembled in 7-20 hours, depending on the design features.

Our prices and examples of work.

We always try to maintain a balance in pricing policy. I can't say that we have the most low prices. When I receive an order for a product that we have not completed before, I can call the price with a margin, but after the execution I understand that the price was too high, and there were times when I made a return Money, or provided a gift for the purchase.

The more often we perform this or that product, the less time it takes for it, in this regard, now you can buy a high-quality handmade wallet for 900 rubles, which cost 1,500 rubles a year ago.

Who is our client. Portrait of a buyer of leather accessories

The main customers are men over 25 years old (and women who have men over 25 years old).

This is how we make bags. the brand on the bag looks cool, you can immediately see that it is not from the market.

Samara is the geographic reference of our location.

According to our statistics, 96% of orders are sold throughout Russia, 2% - Europe, 1% of products are sold directly on site in Samara and 1% - in the CIS countries. Most sales are made through social media. We plan to enter new markets gradually, eventually increasing the staff.

There is no exact figure for the number of products; when calculating, I always go astray, since the business is small and a strict reporting form has not yet been introduced. Money matters are a trade secret, but for the readers of the magazine I can say that in terms of indicators, the growth of the second year of the business compared to the first was two times.

The history of the creation of the brand of leather products Salty Dog

Salty Dog is translated from English as "Salted Dog" or "Salty Dog". Salty Dog - sounds unusual, memorable. Question: "Is this the skin of a dog?" - I heard only twice, usually such associations do not arise in clients.

From 2012 to 2015 we couldn't come up with a name for the brand, we tried different options. In 2015, I got a dog, during the training I accidentally bit the dog's ear, it seemed salty to me, it was at that moment that my head was busy with the question of creating the name of the workshop. After I read on the Internet that "salty dog" on English language akin to our "Arrow Sparrow" or "Grated Kolach", nothing obscene was observed behind the term, so the choice fell on it.

The dog on the logo is easy to remember!

The Jargon Dictionary gives the following definition of the term:

Salty Dog is nautical slang for an experienced sailor who has spent most of his life aboard a ship at sea. "Salted Dog" often manages to gain increased confidence from the ship's crew on issues related to life and official duties on the corbal. The term "Old salt" is also used - "Old salt".

How is the processing of an individual order

We carry out work according to ready-made projects, or taking into account individual wishes. Nothing special is required from the client to prepare the order. Of course, if the client can draw what he specifically wants, that's cool, but basically we get by with photos and examples of work that we like and like. And then we discuss everything that we don’t like and that we would like to add - and as a result, voila, something new, a unique designer accessory is born.

What people don't order!

Everything is quite standard, identifying needs, offering options that are as similar as possible to what the client wants, and then we add finishing touches, taking into account the wishes of the customer.

Why Salty Dog products are better than regular store-bought ones from the factory

Let's omit the vanilla words about the soul of the master in each product. Show me the factory which produces leather products with a thickness of 2 mm, wherever there is manual stitching, which is technologically more reliable than machine stitching. Our products may have shortcomings in practicality, but they have a colossal margin of reliability - this is their main advantage.

Where do our clients come from

At the moment, the main source of traffic is YouTube, when requested in search engines people find our videos with master classes, and from there they go to our social networks.

At the booth, leather is waiting for customers!

We have no time to dream - we are always at work, but there are grandiose plans to open a showroom combined with a workshop and an art space. A variant of a non-standard place, having come where a person could purchase a product or take part in a live master class.

What advertising works to promote designer accessories

According to statistics, 50% of customers come from a Youtube channel, 20% come from social media searches, 20% come from search engines, and 10% come from word of mouth. At one time I promoted photo master classes on various resources, it happens that live clients come from links that I posted 3-4 years ago on a particular forum and forgot about them.

The work of the master is afraid. And the master himself is afraid to cripple his fingers.

We are trying various types of advertising - reposts in social networks, which is not the most effective way, advertising system Google Adwords, advertising on YouTube channels, . For the budget, I can’t say for sure, on YouTube and Instagram we mainly do barter advertising.

Due to the lack of constant advertising costs, it is difficult to talk about the impact on growth dynamics. Now I pay more attention to advertising on the YouTube channel, so I can’t say with certainty that the client came precisely because of advertising, and not after the release of a new video.

Corporate Orders

There are permanent corporate clients, Retail Stores, online stores, help sell products for various sports and other events, we also work with advertising agencies and young entrepreneurs who know how to sell, but can’t sew, there are interesting projects that fully sell our products, but we won’t disclose names under our logo - this is a trade secret.
